Jesus was a real person. He lived in Israel during the Roman empire, traveling around teaching that he was God's "chosen one" (also known as Messiah or Christ). This person had been discussed by Jewish prophets for centuries.

His teaching changed people. And he proved his message was true through miracles, doing exactly what God had said would happen. This angered the religious and political leaders. Eventually, they arrested him and had him publicly executed as a criminal revolutionary. 

They thought it was over. But three days after his death people announced that Jesus' grave was empty, and that they had interacted with him. Jesus had come back to life! God proved everything Jesus said was true - he was the divine rescuer that had been promised.

His friends - and even many of his enemies - were changed because of this. They declared this message all over the world: Jesus was God in a human body, and he sacrificed his own life to save humanity from evil, rescue them from their guiltiness and reunite them with God. 

But the story doesn't end there. Jesus promised he'll return and justly judge all beings who have ever lived. Then God will live in perfect harmony with those who responded and submitted to his message.
